Integrating Smart IoT Gateway and EMS for Energy Efficient Buildings

In collaboration with

Date: 30 April 2022
Time: 10am - 11am
Online Session: MS Teams Session Link
Speaker: Ir. Tony Cheng Yew Leong, IET

Abstract

As the world continues to urbanize, energy utilization increases through population growth, and the increased availability of electricity within developing economies has raised concerns for the organizations worldwide. These increases significantly impact the environment due to the processing of electricity from fossil fuels in heavy-duty power generation plants to cater for demand.

The building industries contribute huge electricity consumption and mostly from HVAC Systems. Internet of Things (IoT), which has a high degree of complexity, enables the interconnection between Energy Management Systems (EMS) to establish better communication in terms of real-time monitoring and optimization of building energy consumptions. IoT platforms and various electronic devices, applying machine learning and Artificial Intelligent (AI) algorithms and therefore becoming smarter, more efficient and without human interventions. With the combination of IoT and EMS, energy consumption predictions are the future trends towards building energy reduction.
