Smart Applications Track | Innovate Malaysia Design Competition

By use of technologies, including mobile, web, and/or cloud technologies, many applications can be turned smart, by collecting and interrelating data from various sources, computing the best-optimized actions, and executing the tasks automatically. Smart applications may automate processes, increase efficiency, reduce time and cost, and even enable tasks that were not originally possible.

This competition track invites projects related to smart applications in any of the following domain applications:

Smart logistics
Smart city
Smart healthcare
Smart retail
Smart social
Any other smart applications

DHL Smart Logistics Challenge: Keeping abreast of changing expectations

Background

The pandemic has changed the way we live life and conduct our business. Even though it's been over 18 months, we are all still trying to understand what the new norm looks like. As a delivery service provider, it is very important for DHL to stay abreast of the changing expectations, both from customers as well as employees. Traditionally, we gather feedback using surveys – this includes a satisfaction rating as well as a field to capture any feedback.

Problem Statement

Problem statement from a DHL Express customer:

“I am happy to work with a company that values customer feedback. This shows me that they are interested to hear my point of view and gives me the confidence that they seek to continuously improve. I have responded to quite a few surveys in the past but I’m not sure what exactly they have done with it. It would be great if I knew that my feedback led to certain improvements in their process & solution offering. This would keep me engaged and encourage me to continue to share my feedback. Many companies continue to improve their processes I believe but the ones that stand out are companies that get their customers involved in the process.”

Problem statement from a DHL Express employee (Operations):

“DHL Express Malaysia is a great place to work! As an employee I feel that the management values my opinions. We have many opportunities to give feedback to management, even to our MD. In addition to the annual employee opinion survey, we have quarterly skip-level meetings with our head of department, MD and HR director – our feedback is captured manually by our HR executive. I’m confident that management follows-up on my feedback but I wish that we have visibility on all other feedback by all staff and what actions have been taken. So far, we only receive updates on our team’s feedback.”

Problem statement from a DHL Express employee (HR):

“Employee opinion is very important to us because we want this to be a great place to work, not just for a few people but for everyone. To do that we must keep close to the ground and get feedback regularly from our employees to know if they are happy and how we can improve further. We have quarterly skip-level meetings across the country with every department – that's over 1300 employees! To ensure that we capture everything that was shared – my team and I will attend every session and scribe everything that was said. That’s hard work I must say but I understand the importance of it. I do wish that there is a solution to take away all these manual work though so that all feedback can be captured easily.”
